Life in the Light

Over the past couple of weeks I've been messing around with some lighting techniques. So many very cool things you can do with it. If you haven't experienced with it yet, then you should. I've always been one to just use natural light, which I love. Natural light is awesome, but sometimes you need a change. Sometimes you need that extra boost of light that only a flash or a lamp can provide. So, experiment and see what you come up with.

Over Christmas this past year I got this really cool filter, called a star filter. You're probably thinking, what is that? Well, I'll tell you what it is :) It's a special filter that takes single lights or candles and makes them look like stars. Crazy, right? It is actually very cool. Here is one of the pics I took, using the star filter...

New Year and New Beginnings

It has been too long since I last wrote a post. Life can be hectic, and I was unable to find time to post. It's a new year and I'm back! A new year means many new beginnings....and yes, new blog posts! One of my goals for this new year, to stay more updated with my postings and take more pictures than ever. I'm taking my goal at becoming a photographer more seriously and truly trying to reach my dream.

Since it has been so long since I last posted, I don't really remember where I was going with those posts. I think it was somewhere along the lines of "love". But if I can't really remember, I'm sure y'all can't either, or maybe you have a better memory than I do. Well, I'm feeling like Dory from Finding Nemo and my memory is failing me. So, with the whole new year thing, how about we just start fresh with everything? Hope y'all don't mind.

Before I really start talking about photography and sharing pictures with y'all again, I want to give you a little warning. These upcoming posts are going to be a little more in depth than before. I have more to say these days :) If you don't like to read a lot, then you can just skip down to the photos and ignore my ramblings.

This new year has already made me realize what a true gift and blessing life is. We take it for granted, at least, I know I do. So often I get caught up with everyday life and forget to sit back and look at the many blessings from God. One of the many blessings that I have always been thankful for, but have become even more thankful for, is family. Wait, I think that's where I was going with my last postings! Yes, I believe so. Well, looks like the Lord done blessed me again and brought my memory back.

Back to talking about family though. So often we complain about them (and sometimes we have the right to, ha!), but how often do we sit back and simply thank God for blessing us with a family? People who will love us no matter what? Loved ones that we can always count on? Not nearly enough I am sure. This picture that I am about to share with you is a picture that I recently took of my niece and nephew. To me, it shows a little bit of what family is about. They're so young, and yet they're sitting there simply loving on one another and enjoying being together. I think we can often learn life lessons from children...

Precious Babies

Babies are so precious. A little bundle of love, joy, and a beautiful gift. Babies are truly blessings from God. Afterall, if it wasn't for Him sending His Son in the form of a baby, to grow and to die on the cross for our sins...we would have no hope. Babies are simply miracles. I absolutely love babies, and really enjoy taking pictures of them. Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to take that many pictures of babies. I look forward to having the opportunity to taking more in the future. That's beside the point though :)

I could talk about babies forever. They're just too stinkin' adorable! I mean, who doesn't think so? Here are a couple of my favorite pictures that I have taken of these tiny little miracles...

The Gift of Marriage

Finally, I'm finding time to sit down and catch up on my blog posts! In case you haven't read the last post yet, you might want to before you read this one...you'll understand a little better then :) Moving on...

So, we started talking about love. The second thing that I said reminded me of love was the gift of marriage. You're probably wondering, "What's this gift?". The gift is the expecting of a little baby. How precious is that? Two people being united in marriage, and then having a child. Now that is an amazing gift.

With that said, I would like to share a few photos from a recent maternity shoot I just did.

Love is a Four Letter Word

Love...a word used for so many different things. When I think of the word 'love', there are a ton of things that go through my mind. We love our families, we love pizza, we love movies, we love our friends, we love photography (at least I do)...the list goes on. At the moment, these four things are popping in my head...weddings, the gift of marriage, babies, and family. (Notice all of these things relate to Family...in case you didn't realize that.)
The first thing I mentioned were weddings, so we'll talk about that first. Love is written all over weddings. I mean seriously, two people madly in love and vowing to be there for each other the rest of their lives. In my eyes, it doesn't get much more romantic than that! And when all of this love and excitement is happening, you have to capture the moment. That's where my other love comes in...photography. Photographers play a huge part in that special day...if it wasn't for them you'd probably end up forgetting about half the stuff that went on. And who would want that to happen? I know I wouldn't, that's why I want to help people capture and treasure their special day. Here are a few wedding photos I've taken...

Treasured New Beginnings

I have never understood why, but summer makes me think of new beginnings. Maybe it's the fresh air and the blooming of beautiful flowers. With this thought, I've decided that it's time to begin a new chapter in my life. This chapter includes photography. It has always played a big part in my life, and I have known for a while that I wanted to become a photographer. It hasn't been until now that I have truly decided to pursue this passion.

Recently I photographed a wedding. This was a first for me. I was extremely nervous and had no idea how it would go. Thankfully, it was my cousin's wedding, that made things a little more relaxing. After the wedding I began sorting through photos and became super excited with some of the results. When it comes to criticizing my photos, I'm the worst! Surprisingly, I was pleased with the outcome. Here are a couple shots...

Soon to come I will be posting more wedding shots, but until then, I would like to share a few photos from a maternity shoot I just did this week. This one I was even more nervous about than the wedding. I had no idea how to take pictures of a wedding, let alone someone expecting a baby! Thankfully, once again, this was family as well. As I was taking the pictures I kept thinking to myself, these are turning out awful. But, I surprised myself yet again. And they turned out better than I ever expected! Here are few of those shots...

Stay tuned for more pictures and more blogs to come :)
